Moon Lake

Two weekends ago, David and I went to Moon Lake with his family. Loved it.

Top 10 Favorite things about Moon Lake (Heather)
10. The bug spray (I only got one bite on the back of my neck.)
9. Perfect weather and the sun screen to block it
8. Our own little cabin!
7. The games--especially Pit (Because it's really hard to cheat on that one)
6. Being able to be "ugly"--no makeup or hair accouterment
5. The excellent food (especially the s'mores and banana boats). Thanks everyone!
4. The water balloon launcher. We had a great time combining that with our kayak on the lake.
3. Being able to spend time with family
2. The STARS! They were amazing! We learned quite a few cool new constellations
1. Fully-dressed David falling out of the beached kayak and going completely under the water
(He was getting water-balloon-attacked by Brighton)

David's Top Ten

10. The food. I love having lots of really good food.
9. Volleyball with real sand.
8. Sand Castles. Need I say more.
7. The mudd.
6. Jeff running around saying stinky diaper stinky diaper.
5. The stars.
4. Banana boats.
3. The moon lake monster.
2. Watching my wife and sisters gang up on me in a water balloon fight, but me still winning.
1. Being with family

AND Top 1 Bad thing:
1: David's wedding ring at the bottom of the lake.
:( But I did get him a new ring (one that fits) last week--I gave it to him on one knee and made him promise he would Never (intentionally) lose it again.

Dave had a birthday. . .

David's birthday was on Friday--he turned 25! We went out to eat to celebrate--Tucanos. It's a really good place, but a little pricey, so we make sure we go on the month of birthdays, where you get buy-one-get-one-free. David even got to stand up and get sung to a little birthday song in Portuguese. Opah!

Since the beginning of June, I've been pestering David about what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday. I finally decided for him--German chocolate (my favorite). This is my first attempt to make David's bday cake. . . I was pretty proud of the two cake layers, but the frosting was reeeaally runny. You can see how the yellow frosting slid all the way off the cake, off the platter, and onto the counter. It was messy. I had to remake the frosting, and we didn't get to eat the cake until later that night, but it was really good when it was all over! (David is actually eating the leftovers as I type.)

Here is David blowing out his candles. I thought all 25 huge candles on the cake reminded me of Sleeping Beauty's cake where the fairy tries to put the candles on and they slip off down the broomstick--basically, the candles were melting everywhere and falling off. . . having 25 candles on your cake is a lot of work!

He huffed, he puffed, and he got them all in one breath. Good job, hun.

Happy birthday David! Here he is with some of his presents--a new set of scriptures, balloons, and cake. He also got a few shirts, air fresheners, a road map, a lantern, a new cell phone, some CDs, the movie School of Rock, and some other gifts from our family. Thanks everyone! We had a great day.

VACATION

For the break between Spring and Summer terms at BYU, David and I took a trip out west to visit family and go to Disneyland! My aunt Elaine (my mom's sister) and her family were GREAT. They gave us a place to stay, food for our outings, and even got us boogie boards for the beach.

Here we are, in a line for our first ride of the day--Indiana Jones!

California Adventure! This was my first time here. I really liked it--epecially Hollywood Tower of Terror, Soarin' Over California, and the Pixar-Disney parade.

We even did the kiddy rides like the teacups . . . I wanted to go on "It's a Small World After All," but they were remodeling it and the ride was closed :(

David and I posing in front of our favorite ride at Disneyland.

Ahh.. . . The happiest place on earth.

Here we are the next day at Sea World--this is right after we got off a roller coaster ride that got us SOAKED. The skeleton jaw behind us belonged to a species of shark that could get up to 45 feet long! Thank goodness it's extinct.

We visited the LDS San Diego temple one morning. It was really hot, and there were quite a few weddings going on, but the temple was beautiful and we were glad we stopped by.

We didn't get to the beach until later in the day, but we had a great time. David loved boogie boarding. We are happy to report we did not see a single shark.

Yeee Haw! This past week Heather had a gig for one of her music classes. She had a vocal and guitar solo in the performance. She was pretty amazing. (She really was!) It was a folk music concert, so they were all dressed up like cowboys. At the end of the performance they received a standing ovation from everyone in the audience... all seven of us.

This is me on Father's day morning. Heather put up some decorations and gave me some gifts. (If its this good and I'm not even a father yet, I can't imagine what it will be like when I actually am a father.) Heather always has something fun up her sleeve.

We also attended my cousin Doug's wedding. (Welcome to the family Kendra.) My birthday is this month, which we celebrated at my parent's house a few weeks ago. Heather is finishing up on her classes and is excited for a break. She has been working hard and I'm sure she will have another great term.

In one of Heather's classes she was assigned to read 30 books in less than 60 days. With her reading so much I decided to read one as well. She picked one out for me called "Ender's Game" and I loved it! Its a little high on the nerd scale but it was a really fun read. If anyone has the spare time I recommend it. Four stars in fact. We also saw King Fu Panda. It also received four stars from the Yates's.

May Madness!

This Month has been awesome. We started it all off with celebrating Cinco de Mayo with the Blacks--complete with a pinata in the shape of a ship to celebrate the sinking of the Mayonnaise so long ago. We also got a new car! It was Perfect Timing, because old Gold Spike got pretty jealous and stopped cooperating on the way home. The car had just enough things wrong with it (kinda dirty, cracked windshield, broken back fender, shakes) that we could afford it. But after a make-over, it is quite a beaut! Last weekend, we went camping in American Fork. It was our first camping trip together and it was Perfect. Great weather, great food (we had tin-foil dinners), great s'mores, and the perfect spot--right next to the river and "awaaay from it all." Also, for Mother's Day, David surprised me one morning with the kitchen all decorated and a present for me--Dominoes! We played six games and I won five and we tied one. For the weekend, we went to Idaho and spent time with the Harpers--it was great to see everyone. We also got our carpets cleaned :)

Camping! I pitched the tent and cooked our dinner while David took a scenic drive around the mountains. We slept next to a Scout Campout, but they were actually pretty good.

Our New Car. The Green Machine. David has done a great job fixing it up.

David is the most amazing husband! I'm not even a mom yet and so he really surprised me with all the hoop-hah of Mother's Day! It was great.

GRADuation!

I know many of you thought this day would never come... but yes, I am graduated. The funny thing is that it starts all over again this fall. I have actually been finished with school since December, and sometimes I miss it, but I'm also happy to have so much more free time. I received several graduation gifts which were a lot of fun. We had family over to our apartment after the 'graduation ceremony' and the next day Heather and I hiked the Y.

Brother Brigham and I go way back.
(He's not actually graduating with me.... I just lent him my cap.)

So we haven't posted for a while. . .

Now that the semester is basically over for Heather (finishing strong with 20.0 credits!), we have some time to post! It has finally warmed up in Provo, but ironically we have been sick the past week with the flu. Or whooping cough (one of Heather's students had the whooping cough). Yesterday we went shopping and David got some new clothes, flip-flops, and a New Bike! We went to some of the ritzier cycle shops in Provo, but the lowest priced bike was $700, soooo we went to the next best place. DI!! We got a steal of a deal for about 25/700ths of the price of anything else we saw that day (AKA 25 bucks). We had to go to Outdoors Unlimited and get a new bike tire, but we are happy with our weekend purchase.

Hooray for Spring!

David with new flip flops and bike. We are still working on getting the back tire pumped up and looking good, but we have plans for a bike ride later this week.

Heather's Grandpa Royle had his 97th birthday last week. David and Heather went with Heather's brother Devin to go celebrate at his house with Grandma D and other of Grandpa's family. Wow! 97 years!
